As part of the three days of antiwar actions on the weekend of Sept. 24-26th, United for Peace and Justice is organizing a mass nonviolent direct action at the White House on that Monday morning, Sept. 26th. The action will be carried out in accordance with agreed upon nonviolent guidelines and will dramatically articulate the depth of opposition to the war in Iraq. People from all walks of life and from varied social change traditions are encouraged to join this effort.
Elements of the day will include an interfaith religious delegation seeking to pray at the front steps of the White House, as well as groups that will make an effort to leave on the fence around the White House the names and pictures of both Iraqis and U.S. servicepeople who have died in this war and occupation, and messages from individuals that explain their opposition to the war. In the coming weeks more details will be posted on this web site, so be sure to check for updates.
UFPJ will be organizing a training session for those affinity groups, organizations and individuals that want to be part of this action. Details on this will be available soon, as will a form to indicate your interest in participating in the White House protest.
UFPJ will also be participating in a process to share information, co-coordinate legal support, and work in solidarity with those who plan and participate in other non-violent decentralized, autonomous actions on Sept. 26th.
Please be sure to check back to this site for more details in the coming weeks. |
